TIME
For this week “Self-Development teachings”, I was scrolling through Instagram and I found a video of Sylvester Stallone talking about TIME. The short 20 seconds video caught my attention. He talked with so much depth and emotion.
The video started with he asking a rhetorical question to the camera, “What do you think is the most valuable thing you might have in your life and you really don’t pay attention to? Especially when you are young because you just feel you have an abundance of it. It is never ending. Time. Time!”
Then he continues “as you get older you realize time becomes your currency. When you realize it is best to run away up ahead than behind. Sometimes you learn it too late. You really have to be very selfish with your time. Don’t waste it with things you know are not part of your dreams and plans. Don’t waste time complaining and being bitter. Because in the end it is just waste of the most valuable asset, time.”
I thought it was very powerful message, especially from someone that had such a huge influence and fame being a well-known actor and director.
Time is the only thing we cannot have back. Time is so precious and it’s one of the things people regret the most the older they get. They regret the time they didn’t spend with loved ones, the time they spent in toxic relationships, the time they wasted doing nothing instead of finishing a task, the time they wasted getting angry, and so much more.
We still have time to change things. We can start making our time count from here on. I have put together 10 practices in which you can make your time more precious and memorable so you don’t regret the time lost:
1. Wake up early
Going to bed and waking up early makes you enjoy the day more and can complete more tasks
2. Do not distribute Yes’s
Don’t accept responsibilities that you don’t want to. Don’t use your time and dedication only to cause good impression. Don’t be afraid to say no to things that are not going to add into your life, and it can be applied to people. Set boundaries.
3. Give yourself breaks
Don’t give up on things, learn how to rest. Sometimes we feel too overwhelmed with our daily responsibilities that we just want to give up, but sometimes this feeling can be fixed with a nice walk, exercising, eating somewhere different, or doing something you like. Spending time on your phone is not the best way to rest your mind.
4. Prioritize your tasks
Determine the importance of each of your tasks, together with deadlines. It will strongly help you to focus one thing at a time.
5. Be disciplined
There is a song that says that discipline brings freedom, and it is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard. When you have the discipline to go exercise, clean the house, do your tasks, you don’t trick your mind, you just go there and do it.
6. Keep clean and organized
Create the habit of keeping your workspace and house clean. You will feel so much more productive and happier with yourself.
7. Listen to yourself
When you have some time with yourself or listen to our body, you better understand the way you work, you will have more self-awareness of how to treat yourself more effectively.
8. New is good
Visit new places, meet new people, try new activities or learn new things. It is great to have new experiences.
9. Don’t make emotions control you
Don’t let bad feeling have priority in your life. Anger, hate, frustration, guilty can physically impact your mind and body. It is not easy to let things go, but make time to set yourself free. Make good feelings have a higher impact in your life.
10. Stop the time
It is actually impossible to stop the time, but you can make it more memorable when you stop and pay attention in the small details during your day. Take some time to smell, look, touch, taste and hear the things around you.
